I had to bring my cat in at night during emergency hours because he was in a very serious condition… the problem was diagnosed correctly.

Act fast
A cat that refuses food for more than a day — especially with visible pain — needs to be seen.
Laboured, open-mouth or noisy breathing is always an emergency.
Falls, bites, road accidents or wounds that won't stop bleeding.
Repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, especially in kittens and puppies, can become dangerous quickly.
Straining to urinate (especially male cats) or crying in pain needs immediate attention.
Sudden weakness, collapse or seizure activity — come in immediately.
When in doubt, call. It is always better to check than to wait.
